We started with optical survey techniques and soon moved into laser based theodolite systems with data collection and computer backup.

Mercedes Surveys entered the GPS survey market in 1994, starting with instruments provided by a Calgary, Alberta company and based around the Novatel RT20 GPS Board. These receivers served us very well for 10 years.

We updated in 2004/2005 to the Leica Brand of GPS receiver and now have a compliment of 65 Leica 1200 series Dual Frequency Glonass enabled receivers.

Our Equipment includes all the necessary base station and communication devices to engage in RTK, Static and Kinematic surveys.

We also have 4 IKE units manufactured by Surveylab USA Inc. (www.ikegps.com). IKE GPS units incorporate a GPS, Laser, Camera, compass and an inclinometer. Our primary use of the IKE unit is to verify positional data with a time tag and photo within our GIS system. The IKE units are not Survey grade instruments but are very useful on projects that require photos that are tagged with a position.

In 2007 we entered the Pipeline Location and Leak detection business and with our affiliate company FindIt we have located and surveyed over 1000 km of Low Pressure fiberglass gas pipeline. Our clients on these project are the rural-based distributers of natural gas in Alberta. Beyond the low pressure pipeline initiative we have also located and leak detected High Pressure lines for Suncor and Vermilion Energy Trust Ltd. Our capabilities on those projects include right of way inspection, leak detection, pipeline locates, GPS positioning (kinematic and static), data base development, mapping and GIS.

Processing software includes proficiency on Waypoint products Grafnav, GrafNet, ESRI products, Leica Geo-Office and GPSeismic. We also carry licenses for MapInfo, Globalmapper and other GPS, GIS and Mapping related products.

Mercedes Surveys was instrumental in bringing the advantage of LiDAR to the Seismic Exploration industry in Canada. We have found LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) to be a very useful tool in our ongoing search to provide our costumers with the very best in personnel and technology.

Mercedes Surveys and partners founded the company Airborne Imaging Inc. in Calgary, Alberta. We work in conjunction with Airborne on many projects throughout the USA and Canada. Airborne has 2 Optech 3100 Lidar systems and a new Leica ALS 50-II system. Please visit www.airborneimaginginc.com for a complete list of their services.
